				Medellín: Cultura y turismo / Culture and tourism Cultura y turismo La ciudad cuenta con múltiples escenarios de gran tradición, sitios en los que la historia y el presente se funden para construir una ciudad única, que al combinarse con los nuevos escenarios la hacen un lugar extraordinario para descubrir, recorrer y disfrutar. A continuación se indican algunos de los más representativos: • Museo de Antioquia: A este se llega por la Plaza de las Esculturas, la cual posee un área de 7.000 m2, en la que 23 obras monumentales del maestro Fernando Botero dan la bienvenida al centro de Medellín. • Parques Biblioteca: Estos sitios aportan cerca de 17.000 m2 distribuidos entre salas de lectura, salones para talleres, auditorios, salas de exposiciones, ludotecas, centros de desarrollo empresarial zonal y espacios dotados de computadores para uso libre y con conexión a internet. • Jardín Botánico – Joaquín Antonio Uribe: Sus visitantes podrán recrearse en 14 hectáreas de refugio ecológico. La orquídea es la flor emblemática y figura central del lugar. • Parque Explora: Es un parque interactivo de 37.000 m2, que brinda la oportunidad de establecer contacto directo con la ciencia y la tecnología. • Atractivos rurales: La moderna ciudad se compenetra con pequeños poblados rurales: San Sebastián de Palmitas, Altavista, Santa Elena, San Antonio de Prado y San Cristóbal. Las variadas vocaciones económicas de estos municipios brindan posibilidades de caminatas ecológicas y actividades como la piscicultura, la pesca recreativa y el deporte extremo y de aventura. La ciudad posee una variada oferta cultural para todo tipo de público en escenarios de alto nivel, entre los que sobresalen los Teatros Metropolitano de Medellín, Porfirio Barba Jacob y el Palacio de Bellas Artes. La Feria de las Flores es el evento tradicional de la ciudad, cuyo certamen simbólico es el Desfile de Silleteros. Durante todo el año, Medellín es sede de diversos eventos culturales, recreativos y de negocios: La Feria Taurina de la Candelaria, Colombiamoda y Colombiatex, la Feria del Libro, la Feria Internacional del Transporte y el Festival Internacional de Poesía. Culture and tourism The city has many traditional sites, where the history of the past and the present blend to build a unique city. This combination with new scenarios makes it an extraordinary place to discover, explore and enjoy. Below some of the most characteristic are named: • Antioquia Museum: The Museum can be reached by way of the Sculpture Plaza with an area of 7,000 m2, displaying 23 of the monumental Works of master sculptor, Fernando Botero, extending a welcome to the center of Medellin. • Library Parks: These sites supply about 17,000 m2 distributed among reading rooms, rooms for workshops, music rooms, auditoriums, exhibit rooms, business development centers for the zone and spaces devoted to computers for free use and internet connections. • Botanical Gardens – Joaquín Antonio Uribe: Visitors can enjoy 14 hectares of ecological shelter. The orchid is the emblem flower and central figure in this space. • Explora Park: This is an interactive park of 37,000 m2, which provides the opportunity to establish direct contact with science and technology. • Rural attractions: This modern city is intertwined with small rural villages: San Sebastián de Palmitas, Altavista, Santa Elena, San Antonio de Prado and San Cristobal. The varied economic activity in these towns provides the possibility for ecological walks and activities such as fish breeding, recreational fishing and extreme sports and adventure. The city has a varied cultural agenda for all types of audiences in first class settings, among which the Metropolitan Theater, Porfirio Barba Jacob Theater and Palace of the Fine Arts are worth mentioning. The Flower Festival is one of the city’s traditional events, the most symbolic feature of which is the Parade of the Flower Seats. During the entire year, Medellin is home to a variety of cultural, recreational and business events: the Bull Fighting Fair of the Candelaria, Colombiamoda y Colombiatex, the Book Fair, the International Transportation Fair and the international Poetry Festival.
